Job Description: Defines the technical foundation for automation and integration opportunities across BW Packaging. Translates customer requirements into clear, executable system concepts and layouts that enable accurate estimates, confident proposals, and reliable execution. Partners cross functionally to shape front-end technical definition. Drives clarity, feasibility, and alignment to define well-scoped, executable automation and integration solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Applications & Concept Development
- Translate customer specifications and operating requirements into integrated packaging and automation concepts.
- Define system concepts, layouts, and solution definitions aligned with BW Packaging standards and delivery capabilities.
- Evaluate application fit, system interfaces, and integration considerations across packaging, conveyance, controls, and OEM components.
- Lead technical discussions with internal teams and customers to define scope, assumptions, constraints, and tradeoffs.
- Layouts & Technical Definition
- Create and maintain layout drawings reflecting proposed system configurations and facility constraints.
- Integrate internally developed and partner-supplied equipment into cohesive, end-to-end system layouts.
- Ensure layouts and technical documentation accurately represent proposed scope, operating intent, and integration boundaries.
- Estimating & Proposal Enablement
- Develop and validate controls-related estimating inputs, including engineering hours, assembly effort, and material requirements, aligned to the defined technical solution and integration scope.
- Establish clear technical scope, assumptions, and integration requirements that enable accurate estimates and proposals.
- Partner with Global Supply Chain to ensure accurate definition and alignment of controls component pricing inputs based on approved technical scope.
- Collaborate with Controls & Operations to validate technical assumptions and integration complexity.
- Drive technical clarity within proposal content through precise descriptions, scope definition, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure opportunity and technical scope data remain accurate within approved commercial systems.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Sales and Business Development to shape opportunities and guide customer technical discussions.
- Coordinate with internal teams and electrical contractors as needed to support controls-related demo and installation estimating assumptions.
- Define technical intent and scope during project handoff to Operations to enable execution readiness.
- Participate in internal reviews, customer design discussions, and project kickoffs as required.
- Process Discipline & Continuous Improvement
- Apply standard workflows, documentation practices, and application definition methodologies.
- Identify and implement improvements to tools, templates, and data quality within Application Engineering.
- Advance disciplined and scalable front-end execution practices across automation and integration projects.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline required.
- Strong understanding of packaging systems, automation, and integrated solutions.
- Experience developing system concepts and layouts for capital equipment or automation projects.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and standard productivity tools.
- Ability to translate customer requirements into clear, structured technical definition.
- Effective communicator across technical and commercial teams.
- Flexibility to take on evolving responsibilities aligned with strategic priorities and business needs.
