Job Description: Designs, develops, and implements control systems that enable automated and integrated packaging solutions. Applies technical judgment and disciplined execution to ensure control systems perform reliably, integrate cleanly, and support project delivery requirements. Works closely with Project Management, Applications & Estimating, Operations, and Field Service to translate defined system requirements into effective controls solutions. Focuses on system performance, reliability, and integration quality across execution and startup activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Controls Design & Programming
    • Design and program control systems for conveyor systems and integrated packaging lines.
    • Develop PLC and HMI logic aligned with defined system requirements and integration standards.
    • Apply consistent architectures, reusable components, and standard approaches where appropriate.
    • Document control logic, configurations, and system behavior to support execution and startup.
  • System Integration & Startup Support
    • Prepare control systems for startup by verifying layouts, I/O, and system readiness.
    • Support field activities including system checkout, startup, and troubleshooting.
    • Verify device wiring, motor operation, and network communications.
    • Coordinate with customers and third-party equipment suppliers to ensure line integration and interlocking function as intended.
    • Make program updates and adjustments as needed to support stable system operation.
  • Technical Problem Solving
    • Identify control system issues and take appropriate steps to resolve them.
    • Provide technical support when electrical or system integration issues arise.
    • Apply structured troubleshooting and sound judgment to restore system performance.
    • Support customer training on system functionality and operation as required.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination
    • Collaborate with Project Management to align controls activities with project priorities and schedules.
    • Communicate clearly with internal teams, contractors, and OEM partners regarding controls requirements and site needs.
    • Participate in project reviews, startup coordination meetings, and execution discussions.
  • Standards & Continuous Improvement
    • Follow established controls standards, procedures, and documentation practices.
    • Identify opportunities to improve controls design efficiency, quality, and consistency.
    • Apply lessons learned from execution and startup to strengthen future solutions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience designing and programming industrial control systems in automation or manufacturing environments.
  • Working knowledge of PLC and HMI platforms and industrial communication networks.
  • Experience supporting systems through installation, startup, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work across multiple projects and site environments.
  • Clear communicator able to collaborate across engineering, operations, and project teams.
  • Flexibility to take on evolving responsibilities in response to strategic priorities and business needs.
