Job Description: Supports the technical and commercial definition of automation and integration opportunities for BW Packaging. Translates customer requirements into clearly defined concepts, layouts, and estimates that are technically feasible, commercially sound, and ready for proposal and execution. Works in close partnership with Business Development, Controls, Operations, Supply Chain, and platform partners to strengthen front-end project definition. Focuses on accuracy, clarity, and alignment so customer intent is converted into well-scoped, executable automation and integration solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Applications & Concept Development
    • Translate customer specifications and operating requirements into integrated packaging and automation concepts.
    • Develop system concepts, layouts, and solution definitions aligned with BW Packaging platforms, standards, and delivery capabilities.
    • Evaluate application fit, system interfaces, and integration considerations across packaging, conveyance, controls, and OEM components.
    • Support technical discussions with internal teams and customers to clarify scope, assumptions, and constraints.
  • Layouts & Technical Definition
    • Create and maintain layout drawings reflecting proposed system configurations and facility constraints.
    • Integrate internally developed and partner-supplied equipment into cohesive system layouts.
    • Ensure layouts and technical documentation accurately reflect proposed scope and operating intent.
  • Estimating & Proposal Support
    • Develop cost estimates for materials, labor, and integration scope using established tools and methodologies.
    • Partner with Controls, Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance to validate assumptions and improve estimate accuracy.
    • Support proposal development through technical descriptions, scope clarity, and supporting documentation.
    • Maintain accurate opportunity and estimating data within approved commercial systems.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Collaborate with Business Development to support opportunity shaping and customer discussions.
    • Provide technical input to Operations during project handoff to support execution readiness.
    • Participate in internal reviews, customer design discussions, and project kickoffs as needed.
  • Process Discipline & Continuous Improvement
    • Apply standard workflows, documentation practices, and estimating methodologies.
    • Identify opportunities to improve tools, templates, and data quality within Applications & Estimating.
    • Contribute to disciplined, clear, and continuously improving front-end execution practices.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline required.
  • Strong understanding of packaging systems, automation, and integrated solutions.
  • Experience developing layouts, concepts, and estimates for capital equipment or automation projects.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and standard productivity tools.
  • Ability to interpret customer requirements and translate them into structured technical and commercial inputs.
  • Effective communicator across technical and commercial teams.
  • Flexibility to take on evolving responsibilities in response to strategic priorities and business needs.
  • Travel: Up to 30% – Domestic and International.
