Barry Gardiner MP is seeking a compassionate, dedicated and experienced Caseworker to join his office to support the constituents of Brent West. This is an ideal opportunity for an individual with previous casework experience providing advice on tax, benefits and other issues affecting local residents. He is seeking an individual with strong verbal and written communications, attention to detail and organisational skills, alongside a passion to make a difference.
The role is 32 hours per week over four days and will provide flexibility where possible.
- Dealing with correspondence and emails and providing timely responses
- Organising and attending surgeries, other relevant meetings, and taking notes
- Gathering information relevant to assist with resolving cases
- Liaising with government, local government and various organisations
- Draft and issue responses to constituents
- Logging all cases, monitoring progress and reviewing
- Ensure that each case is dealt with promptly, sensitively, confidentially and accurately
- Retaining records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act
- Engage professionally, confidentially and with care and integrity with members of the public
- Various other tasks depending upon demands within the office
Commitment to tackling inequality and representing disadvantaged and vulnerable constituents.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Good IT skills
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage challenging workload
- Ability to deal with constituents and community groups in a London Constituency in a helpful and sympathetic manner
- Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO).
