The Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Service Engineer to join our Industrial Division and support customers across the South of England and Wales. This is a hands‑on, field‑based position delivering high‑quality technical support, diagnostics, servicing and repairs on industrial engine‑powered equipment. You’ll work directly with OEMs, distributors and end users, representing Barrus professionally on customer sites and providing expert technical solutions. The role covers Birmingham and southwards, including Wales, with regular travel and occasional overnight stays required. For ease of access to our Head Office, an ideal home location will be within approximately one hour of Bicester. A company vehicle will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Fault‑finding, diagnostics, servicing and repair of diesel and petrol engines, including Stage V electronic engines.
- On‑site technical support for customers, OEMs and distributors.
- Accurate completion of job cards, service worksheets, warranty reports and timesheets.
- Supporting warranty investigations and technical reporting.
- Working closely with Service Managers to plan and manage workload and scheduling.
- Attending Head Office for training, technical meetings and product updates as required.
- Building strong, professional relationships with customers and internal teams.
- Ensuring all work complies with Barrus procedures, OEM requirements and health & safety standards.
Qualifications & Desirable Skills
- Strong experience with diesel and petrol engines, including electronic Stage V systems.
- Good understanding of 12v/24v electrical systems, including CAN bus.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
- Proven experience in a field‑based service engineering or technician role.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft applications.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage your own workload.
- Full UK driving licence.
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Service Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- Desirable: John Deere and/or Yanmar engine training or certification.
- Desirable: Experience with hydraulic systems or warranty processes.
- Desirable: Knowledge of generator, construction or rental equipment sectors.
- Desirable: Minimum of 5 years’ field‑based service engineering experience.
