We operate SPAR/Post Office stores in both Chesterfield and Hope, in the Peak District. Our stores trade as part of the SPAR symbol group through our wholesaler, A.F. Blakemore & Son Ltd. We are looking for a friendly and motivated Assistant Store Manager to help lead our busy SPAR convenience store with an integrated Post Office, at the heart of this village community. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced retail environment, enjoys building relationships with customers, supporting a local team, and taking pride in assisting with running a store that people rely on every day. Our store is more than just a place to shop – it's a key part of the community, providing essential services through SPAR and the Post Office. As Assistant Store Manager, you'll play a vital role in making sure customers always feel welcome, valued and well looked after.
Your Role
- Supporting the Store Manager with the day-to-day running of the SPAR store and Post Office
- Lead, support and develop a small local team
- Deliver friendly, personal customer service and maintain strong community relationships
- Ensure the store is well-stocked, well-presented and running efficiently
- Manage stock, ordering, merchandising and waste
- Handle cash, banking and Post Office transactions in line with procedures
- Ensure compliance with SPAR standards, Post Office requirements and all legal regulations
- Take responsibility for the store in the Manager's absence
About You
- Previous retail supervisory experience preferred but not essential
- Post Office experience is an advantage, but training will be provided
- A people‐person who enjoys working with customers and the local community
- Strong leadership and organisational skills
- Honest, dependable and confident with responsibility
- Flexible to work across weekdays and weekends
