About Us
We are a leading UK-based Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) specialising in biologics, with a focus on recombinant protein production for therapeutic, diagnostic, and research applications. Our state-of-the-art GMP-compliant facilities, expert teams, and customer-centric approach support global biotech and pharma clients from early development through to commercial supply.
Role Overview
As Production Manager – Recombinant Protein, you will lead the planning, coordination, and execution of protein manufacturing operations within our GMP and non-GMP production suites. You will manage a team of upstream and downstream scientists and technicians, oversee technology transfer from process development, and ensure manufacturing activities are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and regulatory standards.
This is a key leadership role that combines operational excellence with deep technical expertise in recombinant protein production (bacterial, yeast, or mammalian expression systems).
Key Responsibilities

- Plan and coordinate manufacturing campaigns for client projects, ensuring timelines, quality, and compliance goals are met.
- Oversee technology transfer from process development and ensure scalability and process robustness for GMP manufacturing.
- Maintain GMP compliance and ensure batch records, deviations, and change controls are accurately completed and reviewed.
- Drive continuous improvement in manufacturing processes, efficiency, and documentation.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with QA, QC, MSAT, Engineering, and Project Management to ensure seamless project delivery.
- Support client audits, regulatory inspections (e.g., MHRA), and contribute to CMC documentation when required.
- Mentor, develop, and manage a high-performing team, including shift leads, scientists, and production technicians.
Requirements
- Degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or related life science discipline.
- Significant experience (5+ years) in GMP biologics manufacturing, ideally within a CDMO or biotech environment.
- Hands-on knowledge of recombinant protein production using bacterial (e.g., E. coli), yeast, or mammalian expression systems.
- Proven leadership experience managing production teams and delivering complex manufacturing projects.
- Strong understanding of GMP, regulatory requirements, and quality systems.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience with single-use technologies (e.g., bioreactors, chromatography skids).
- Familiarity with electronic batch records (EBR), MES, or LIMS systems.
- Experience in tech transfer and process scale-up.
- Knowledge of viral clearance, fill/finish, or cell therapy would be advantageous.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary and performance bonus
- 25+ days holiday + bank holidays
- Private healthcare and pension schemes
- Career development and training opportunities
- Collaborative and innovative working culture
