We are looking for a capable and detail-oriented Licensed Animal Technician to support a dynamic in vivo research programme within a leading biomedical research setting. The successful candidate will hold a valid UK Home Office Personal Licence (PIL) with categories A–B, with category C considered advantageous. This role involves carrying out regulated procedures under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA), contributing to high-quality translational research while maintaining exemplary standards of animal welfare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out regulated procedures in accordance with a UK Home Office Personal Licence (A–B essential)
  • Perform a range of dosing and sampling techniques
  • Undertake blood and tissue collection in line with study protocols
  • Support anaesthetic procedures and peri-operative care, including monitoring and recovery
  • Assist with, or perform, in vivo techniques such as cell implantation (PIL Category C desirable)
  • Monitor animals closely post-procedure, ensuring accurate and compliant record-keeping
  • Adhere to all ASPA regulations, Home Office requirements, and internal standard operating procedures
  • Promote and maintain high standards of animal welfare and ethical practice
  • Collaborate effectively with scientific, veterinary, and technical teams to deliver study objectives

Requirements

  • Valid UK Home Office Personal Licence (PIL) with categories A–B – essential
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle – essential
  • Category C licence or relevant experience – desirable
  • Experience with cell implantation and/or minor surgical procedures
  • Strong understanding of ASPA legislation and animal welfare principles
  • High level of accuracy in documentation and record-keeping
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience in an academic, translational, or preclinical research environment
  • Familiarity with regulated or quality-controlled study settings (e.g., GLP principles)
  • Experience assisting with surgical or minor in vivo procedures
