We are seeking a motivated and conscientious Licensed Animal Technician to join our clients in vivo research team in Scotland. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to high-quality preclinical research within a collaborative and scientifically driven environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily care, welfare, and procedural support of laboratory animals while ensuring full compliance with UK legislation, ethical standards, and institutional policies.
Key Responsibilities- Provide high standards of husbandry and welfare monitoring for laboratory animals, primarily rodents.
- Perform regulated procedures under the authority of a valid UK Home Office Personal Licence.
- Support in vivo studies through dosing, sample collection, health assessments, and record keeping.
- Monitor animals for signs of discomfort, illness, or adverse effects and report concerns promptly.
- Maintain accurate study and animal welfare records in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Assist with breeding colony management, genotyping coordination, and animal identification where required.
- Ensure compliance with the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA), Home Office regulations, and local SOPs.
- Work closely with researchers, veterinarians, NACWOs, and facility management to promote best practice in animal welfare.
- Contribute to facility maintenance, equipment checks, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Valid UK Home Office Personal Licence.
- Experience working with laboratory rodents in a research environment.
- Practical experience with common in vivo techniques, including oral gavage, IP, SC, IV blood sampling techniques.
- Strong understanding of animal welfare principles and the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement).
- Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping skills.
