We are seeking a skilled and motivated Licensed Animal Technician to join an in vivo research team. The successful candidate will hold a valid UK Home Office Personal License (PIL) with categories A–B, with category C highly desirable. This role will involve conducting regulated procedures in accordance with the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA) and maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare and scientific integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform regulated procedures under a UK Home Office Personal License (A–B required)
  • Conduct dosing and sampling procedures including:
  • Intravenous (IV)
  • Intraperitoneal (IP)
  • Subcutaneous (SC)
  • Oral gavage
  • Carry out blood and tissue sampling as required by study protocols
  • Perform and support anesthetic procedures and peri-operative monitoring
  • Assist with or conduct implantation of cells and other in vivo techniques (PIL C desirable)
  • Monitor animals post-procedure and maintain detailed records in line with regulatory requirements
  • Ensure compliance with ASPA, Home Office regulations, and internal SOPs
  • Maintain excellent standards of animal welfare, husbandry awareness, and ethical practice
  • Work closely with scientists, veterinarians, and facility staff to support study objectives
  • Requirements

    • Valid UK Home Office Personal License (PIL) A–B – essential
    • Driving license and a car - essential
    • Category C experience or license – desirable
    • Practical experience with:
    • IV, IP, and subcutaneous dosing
    • Oral gavage
    • Sampling techniques
    • Anesthesia and recovery monitoring
    • Experience with cell implantation or minor surgical procedures
  • Strong understanding of animal welfare standards and ASPA regulations
  • Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary research team
  • Desirable Skills

    • Experience working in preclinical, pharmaceutical, biotech, or academic research environments
    • Familiarity with GLP or regulated study environments
    • Surgical assistance or minor procedure experience
