We have several exciting opportunities available for people with potential who can add value to our world class development department at Barrie Knitwear. Successful people will become an integral part of a market leading manufacturer of premium cashmere knitwear. We are looking for people who have the ability to learn our Shima Seiki Apex system with a goal to develop and grade new styles with a high degree of accuracy after training.
You will have a great eye for detail, and you will enjoy taking responsibility for making sure that all the knitting specifications that we produce give the highest quality standards in line with our customers’ expectations. We would be interested in hearing from people who have a technical mindset and have a background in knitwear, fashion, IT or graphic communication.

Working initially in our Industrialisation Programming team, you will receive excellent training from our expert programmers. You will learn basic programming concepts and machine/knit fundamentals before progressing to more advanced elements. When you have mastered initial training segments we will nurture your progression so that you can contribute to our capacity and add value to our current team.
- Interpret ideas and designs and translate these into practical programmes, working alongside our Design & Product Managers.
- You will become skilled at preparing the most effective programmes to meet the customers’ product requirements, including liaison with the appropriate internal stakeholders.
- Working to tight deadlines to make sure that submissions and production targets are met.
- Making sure that quality standards are achieved throughout the development and industrialisation processes, whilst being as efficient and productive as possible.
- Liaising with the Shima Knitting Operators to ensure that the products are knitted accurately and meet our very high-quality expectations.
- Alongside the Shima mechanic support team, provide troubleshooting expertise and resolution to any potential operational challenges that the operators cannot resolve on their own.
You will be committed, coachable and have an ability to digest technical information. Demonstrate a strong work ethic individually as well as enjoying being part of a programming team. You will be able to show resilience; learning from mistakes and experience to improve. Excellent ability to communicate and build relationships; capable of adapting your style to influence and engage with a wide range of people. You are passionate about embracing new technology and developments. Natural inclination to maximise and explore the opportunities that technology provides. You have a proactive attitude to technical problem solving.
