To provide personalised support to an independent adult, enabling them to maintain their independence, wellbeing, and active participation in their local community. The role involves delivering personal care, practical assistance, companionship, and support with attending appointments and community activities. The successful Personal Assistant will promote choice, dignity, and inclusion while building a positive, trusting relationship with the employer and supporting their individual needs and preferences through a person-centred approach.

- Provide personal care support whilst maintaining the employer's dignity, privacy, and independence.
- Accompany the employer to appointments and community activities.
- Offer support with shopping and other everyday tasks as required.
- Provide companionship and engage in meaningful conversation and social interaction.
- Accompany the employer on outings, walks, and leisure activities.
- Support the employer to access and participate in community-based activities.
- Provide encouragement and practical assistance to promote wellbeing and independence.
- Advocate on the employer's behalf when appropriate, ensuring their views and preferences are represented.
- Develop and maintain a positive, professional, and person-centred working relationship.
- Ensure support is delivered in accordance with the employer's individual needs, preferences, and choices.

Hours of work: Up to 7 hours per week - days and times tbc at interview.
Rate of pay: Β£18.98 per hour (Self-employed only).
Skills, qualifications, and experience
- Previous experience working as a Personal Assistant, Support Worker, Carer, or in a similar care role.
- Experience providing personal care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive, professional, and trusting relationships.
- Confident conversationalist with the ability to provide meaningful companionship.
- Good listening skills and the ability to respond sensitively to individual needs and preferences.
- Ability to support and advocate on behalf of the employer when appropriate.
- Understanding of person-centred support and promoting independence.
- Reliable, trustworthy, and professional approach to work.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes.
- Previous NHS experience.
- Experience supporting individuals with health-related support needs.
- Knowledge of advocacy and supporting individuals to express their views and wishes.
- Understanding of Christian values or a willingness to support an individual whose faith may form part of their lifestyle and interests.
- Experience supporting individuals to access community activities, appointments, and social opportunities.
Responsibilities of a Self-Employed Personal Assistant (PA)
Self-employed Personal Assistants are responsible for managing and meeting their own employment and legal obligations. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Holding the legal right to work in the UK.
- Registering with HMRC and ensuring all Income Tax and National Insurance contributions are paid correctly.
- Obtaining appropriate Employer's Liability Insurance and Public Liability Insurance where required.
- Maintaining up-to-date mandatory training relevant to the role.
- Holding a current and valid DBS certificate.
- Providing the employer with a written contract for services.
- Submitting invoices for hours worked and understanding that, as a self-employed individual, they are not entitled to employee benefits such as sick pay, holiday pay, pension contributions, or other employment-related benefits.
Important: It is essential that self-employed PAs are properly registered with HMRC and fully compliant with their tax and legal obligations. If a self-employed PA is not registered with HMRC or fails to meet their responsibilities, there is a risk that liability for unpaid tax and National Insurance contributions could fall to the employer, potentially resulting in financial penalties. Employers should therefore ensure that all self-employment requirements are evidenced and in place before work commences.
