To provide supportive, person-centred assistance to a young autistic child with additional needs, enabling him to access community and leisure activities safely while promoting independence, social engagement, communication, and positive experiences outside of the family and school environment.

The employer is the parent/guardian of a 10-year-old child with autism and ADHD.

The family is seeking a Personal Assistant to support the child in accessing community and leisure activities.

The child is primarily non-verbal and uses a communication book to express wants and needs.

The family values consistency, familiarity, outdoor activities, and a person-centred approach to support.

The role requires close collaboration with the family to promote the child's independence, communication, and social development.

  • Supporting the child to engage in community-based and recreational activities.
  • Encouraging the development of social skills through interaction with others in appropriate settings.
  • Promoting independence away from parents and school staff.
  • Facilitating participation in activities that the child enjoys, particularly outdoor activities.
  • Helping the child build confidence in new environments and situations.
  • Supporting the child to develop positive relationships and social awareness.
  • Encouraging inclusion and participation within the local community.
  • Using the child's communication book to support interaction and expression of needs and preferences.
  • Providing reassurance and support during social situations that may be challenging or overwhelming.
  • Ensuring activities are enjoyable, engaging, and tailored to the child's interests and abilities.

Hours of work: 4 hours per weekend - (weekends are preferable).

Rate of pay: £13.25 per hour

Skills, qualifications, and experience

  • Experience of supporting non-verbal children and using communication aids.
  • Previous Personal Assistant or support work experience.
  • Knowledge of positive behaviour support strategies.
  • First Aid and safeguarding training.
  • Experience supporting children to develop independence and social skills in community settings.
  • Experience working with children with ASD and ADHD.
  • Understanding of neurodiversity and supporting children during periods of dysregulation.
  • Patient, reliable and able to build positive relationships.
  • Physically able to support an active child in community and outdoor activities.
  • Access to a vehicle and willingness to travel to activities.
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including weekends.

Successful applicants will require DBS checks & Employment References.

This role is funded by the Local Authority and is paid 4 weekly.
