  • Position Overview

Barrick’s Africa & Middle East (AME) and LATAM team are seeking to recruit a Vice President Technology & Innovation – AME & LATAM.

The Vice President Technology & Innovation – AME & LATAM is responsible for executing the Technology and Innovation mission within AME & LATAM, ensuring consistent adoption, coordination, and scaling of technical solutions.

This role provides regional leadership for the implementation, governance, deployment, adoption, and scaling of technology-enabled solutions that improve operational performance, safety, productivity, sustainability, and long‑term business value.

The role translates technology and innovation priorities into practical regional execution plans and ensures that emerging technologies, digital solutions, automation, data insights, and operational innovation are effectively embedded across the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the regional or domain-level technology lead, partnering directly with operational teams.
  • Support the regional deployment of the technology roadmap, ensuring solutions are standardised where appropriate while remaining practical and fit-for-purpose for local operating conditions.
  • Establish governance frameworks for technology trials, proof‑of‑concepts, investment decisions, implementation, adoption, scaling, and retirement of solutions.
  • Coordinate and manage technology trials, ensuring defined objectives, timelines, and success criteria.
  • Build adequate support teams and utilise business‑compliant operating practices to facilitate project management, delivery, support, guidance, in line with project size, scale, and operational business risk.
  • Prevent duplicative or overlapping pilots by aligning initiatives across locations.
  • Support transition from trial to production, including documentation, training, and operational readiness.
  • Identify opportunities to replicate successful solutions across other locations.
  • Provide feedback and data to inform enterprise roadmaps and standards.
  • Partner with operations, technical services, digital, IT, engineering, projects, supply chain, finance, and executive leadership to prioritise initiatives that deliver measurable value.
  • Lead the identification, assessment, and deployment of emerging technologies, including automation, artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, remote operations, asset performance tools, and digital platforms.
  • Ensure technology initiatives are supported by robust business cases, clear success criteria, risk assessments, change management plans, and post‑implementation benefit tracking.
  • Drive operational integration by ensuring that technology solutions are practical, sustainable, user‑adopted, and supported by appropriate processes, training, documentation, and support models.
  • Promote disciplined project execution, ensuring technology initiatives are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with organisational standards.
  • Build strategic partnerships with vendors, OEMs, research institutions, industry bodies, and technology partners to access innovation, capability, and market intelligence.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high‑performing Technology & Innovation team, creating a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and value delivery.
  • Provide executive‑level reporting on technology portfolio performance, investment priorities, risks, adoption levels, benefits realisation, and innovation pipeline progress.
  • Qualification Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mining, Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Postgraduate qualification or MBA advantageous.

Experience And Skills Requirements

  • Minimum 12–15 years’ experience in technology, innovation, digital transformation, engineering, mining, industrial operations, or related fields.
  • At least 5–8 years’ senior leadership experience, preferably in a complex, multi-site operational environment.
  • Proven track record of implementing technology strategies and roadmaps that deliver measurable business, operational, safety, productivity, or sustainability outcomes.
  • Experience leading technology portfolios, innovation pipelines, digital transformation programmes, automation initiatives, or operational improvement projects.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience in business case development, investment prioritisation, budgeting, vendor management, and benefits tracking.
  • Strategic leadership and enterprise‑level decision‑making.
  • Strong understanding of operational technology, digital systems, data‑driven decision‑making, automation, and innovation governance.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business value propositions.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing, and executive communication skills.
  • Change leadership capability with a focus on adoption, sustainability, and operational readiness.
  • Commercial, analytical, and risk‑based decision‑making.
