The predicted salary is between 60000 - 75000 £ per year.
Supporting the business and our divisional offices, our Head Office functions cover all departments from our Executive Board through to our support functions such as Group Design and Technical, HR, Health and Safety, IT, Sales and Marketing, Commercial, Procurement, Group Finance, Corporate Affairs, as well as Legal and Company Secretariat. We also have a specialised function – Barratt Partnerships.
While the work varies from team to team, our key requirements don’t: you must be well organised, extremely helpful and resourceful, and able to use your initiative. You’ll understand that what you do is important, and impacts on your team, the department, and the wider business.
Responsibilities
- You will be managing the Indirect Tax affairs of the Group, ensuring compliance with legislation and driving opportunities for tax efficiency.
- Land acquisition for residential development is complex and the numbers are large. You will play a key role providing advice on transactions and supporting colleagues across the business.
- Business partnering will be critical to the success of this role, integrating tax into day to day business operations to drive value.
- This is a key position in the Tax team, reporting to the Group Tax Director.
- VAT, SDLT and CIS compliance:
- Submit the monthly VAT returns for all Group VAT registrations, including JVs.
- Deal with tax authority queries, ensuring VAT liabilities/repayments are paid/received on a timely basis.
- Calculation of the partial exemption and capital goods scheme annual adjustments.
- Oversight of the SDLT and CIS position of the Group.
- Oversight of the monthly CIS returns reporting and payments to HMRC.
- Provide support to the business finance teams to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Transformation of the tax compliance processes using technology to improve quality, insight and efficiency.
- Managing the implementation of the indirect tax strategy of the Group.
- Providing commercial advice on the VAT and SDLT consequences of complex land transactions, often working under time pressure.
- Advising from an indirect tax perspective on projects e.g. set up on new JV entities.
- Responsibility for the Group Tax Mailbox, dealing with queries promptly, offering a high-quality service to colleagues across the business.
- Dealing with CIS queries from the business.
- Driving solutions for key tax issues relevant to the sector, representing Barratt Redrow externally.
- Actively identify and implement operational tax efficiencies and savings as well as process improvements.
- Managing the relationship with external advisers and dealing with tax authority queries and correspondence.
- Monitoring changes in tax legislation, advising on the impact and taking action to ensure compliance.
- Monitor indirect tax risks as part of compliance with SAO and CCO obligations. Ensuring tax risks are managed with appropriate controls, policies and procedures in place.
- Ensuring tax requirements are built into system changes with appropriate controls in place.
- Partnering with teams across the business to ensure tax is integrated into business operations and decision making, building close working relationships.
- Providing tax training to the business.
- Supporting the Tax team in other tax areas as required.
What You’ll Need
- Strong UK indirect tax background, with significant experience gained from practice or industry.
- Previous land and construction tax experience.
- Excellent UK tax technical knowledge.
- ACA / ACCA / CTA qualified.
- Good commercial awareness and ability to build relationships with stakeholders across the business.
- Pro-active hands-on approach.
- Driven and able to manage multiple work streams.
- Good attention to detail and analytical approach.
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex tax matters in a clear and concise manner.
- Keen interest in tax technology and driving change.
