The Design and Technical teams are involved in all aspects of housing design and innovation. This team is responsible for researching the best materials at the best cost.
Design considerations include the variety of sites, many using existing buildings, each with unique challenges. The team also focuses on new materials, sustainability, and value, while complying with evolving building and environmental legislation.
Most team members have an architectural or engineering background. We offer opportunities to gain expertise in design and project management in a stimulating environment.
Reporting to the Technical Manager, your responsibilities include ensuring all technical information is available for the Construction Team and other departments, liaising with and advising on technical matters, and coordinating all technical information from project inception to completion.
You will be expected to:
- Manage external consultants for the preparation and issuance of production information within agreed timelines, scope, and fees.
- Prepare technical specifications aligned with project requirements and budgets.
- Develop and monitor the Design Programme, presenting updates at Progression Meetings.
- Handle statutory inquiries, legal agreements, and ensure timely submissions and completions.
- Oversee NHBC and Building Regulations applications for approval.
- Ensure working drawings comply with planning schemes and conditions.
- Monitor production information in coordination with the Commercial Department to control costs and adhere to budgets.
- Manage the Professional Fees budget and update fee reports monthly for valuation meetings.
- Ensure compliance with Group Policies and Procedures.
- Oversee the preparation and approval of Brochure Plans, Conveyance Plans, and Sales Area drawings.
- Attend site progress meetings and conduct site inspections.
- Participate in various project meetings and coordinate with internal and external parties.
- Attend subcontractor interviews and meetings as appropriate.
- Respond to site queries and resolve technical and construction issues.
- Issue drawings and information for construction purposes.
To succeed in this role, candidates should have:
- A qualification as a Civil/Building Engineer or a related degree, HNC/HND in a built environment with relevant experience.
- Knowledge of house and apartment construction, Building Regulations, NHBC, Party Wall Awards, and related legislation.
- Strong communication, meeting, and management skills for working with multidisciplinary teams.
- Problem recognition and resolution skills.
- Ability to set tasks and manage teams effectively.
- Capacity to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- A commitment to exceeding customer expectations.
- Excellent communication skills at all levels, with high attention to detail.
- Proficiency in relevant IT tools, including AutoCAD/Revit.
