What you'll be doing?
Our Planning teams manage the spectrum of areas of the planning system on behalf of the Company.
In an ever‑changing planning environment, our teams have experience influencing the formation of planning policy, strategic land promotion, handling development management processes, and implementing community engagement strategies.
Depending on the position, you may work on identifying future land acquisition opportunities, devising planning strategies, managing consultant teams, drafting the statements required for planning application submissions, and delivering immediate or long‑term planning projects on various scales.
You will be involved in partnership working and liaison with a variety of planning authorities, local stakeholders and residents.
Reporting to the Development Director or Technical Director, you will manage all divisional planning applications and land promotions, assist the Technical Department in condition clearance when required, and drive the timely achievement of planning goals to support land acquisition and plot delivery targets.
Responsibilities
- Manage immediate planning applications, devise appropriate planning strategies and coordinate applications from submission to permission and beyond.
- Liaise with strategic land functions on day‑to‑day planning promotion.
- Undertake site appraisals and produce reports to support identification and acquisition of new development opportunities.
- Provide support to wider divisional departments on planning matters.
- Produce planning statements and supporting documentation for submissions, condition discharge, and S106 agreements.
- Monitor planning status progress of all Local Authorities within the division.
- Appoint and manage external consultants involved in planning applications/promotions.
- Oversee planning application expenditure and budgets, inputting into internal reporting as needed.
- Engage extensively with stakeholders including LPAs, statutory bodies, councillors and the public.
- Negotiate legal documents such as S106 agreements.
- Promote and act in accordance with Group values, systems, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications
- Preferred graduate level – Planner or Chartered Surveyor.
- RTPI and/or RICS accreditation, with 5 years’ experience working with a local authority, house builder or private consultancy.
- Experience managing major planning applications either within an LPA, consultancy, or house builder.
- Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation skills.
- Possession of a driving licence and good knowledge of the local area.
- Ability to work independently, self‑manage and prioritise workload.
- PC literate.
