Gladman are a well-respected and established strategic land promoter based in Congleton, Cheshire. We believe in creating truly sustainable developments and are looking to expand our in-house ecology team. We’ll welcome you and the qualities you bring in joining a wider team of experienced planners, project managers and technical advisors working on a country-wide portfolio of residential projects. Our approach is team-based, bringing together a focused group of people working on large and small sites. This is your chance to influence site proposals from the outset and to provide an ecology-led solution. Working within the Planning & Projects department to support the delivery of biodiversity net gain across a range of development projects throughout the UK. You will work closely with our in-house planning team, local authorities, statutory bodies and consultant ecologists to assess biodiversity impacts, design BNG solutions and support projects from feasibility through to planning submissions and subsequent site disposal.
Responsible to the Senior Ecologist, you will be expected to:
- Undertake UKHAB surveys and condition assessments
- Undertake BNG assessments utilising the statutory metric
- Prepare BNG reports, calculations and supporting documents for planning applications
- Advise on BNG strategies, on-site and off-site delivery and habitat creation opportunities
- Commercial awareness and pragmatism around site layout options and BNG options
- Liaise with LPA, statutory bodies and project teams
- Keep up to date with BNG legislation, policy and best practice guidelines
Qualifications, skills and experience:
- Degree in ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline
- Demonstrable experience delivering or supporting BNG assessments
- FISC 3 or above RCA accredited
- Proficient in the use of mapping tools such as QGIS
- Good understanding of the UK planning system and BNG requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Full UK driving licence (travelling will be required to sites)
- The ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Effective time management
- Strong organisational and coordination skills
- A strong work ethic
- Membership (or working towards) CIEEM
- Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team
- Protected species survey licences
