Supporting the business and our divisional offices, our Head Office functions cover all departments from our Executive Board through to our support functions such as Group Design and Technical, HR, Health and Safety, IT, Sales and Marketing, Commercial, Procurement, Group Finance, Corporate Affairs, as well as Legal and Company Secretariat. We also have a specialised function – Barratt Partnerships. While the work varies from team to team, our key requirements don’t: you must be well organised, extremely helpful and resourceful, and able to use your initiative. You’ll understand that what you do is important, and impacts on your team, the department, and the wider business.
Reporting to the Group Senior Architectural Technician, you will be involved in the production of all standard Group House type Working Drawings and Standard Details from Design drawings as well as collating Technical Specifications, liaising with Group Suppliers and supporting Operational Divisions. You will:
- Provide knowledge of building construction and technology to the team.
- Produce working and detailed drawings of new housetypes.
- Management of external consultants to ensure that best practice is followed, costs are controlled and a high quality of work is delivered.
- Work to be a genuine interpretation of the designs, to be technically accurate, clear, in full accordance with all technical regulations and to a programme.
- Update/Revise existing housetypes as required.
- Liaise and provide back up to Divisions providing them with information and dealing with any queries that arise from the office and/or sites.
- Encourage feedback on housetypes/standard details from Divisions.
- Check third-party information relating to housetypes.
- Carry out programmed site visits as part of the Group Design & Technical Site Visit Programme liaising with the Technical/Construction Directors.
- Communicate with and visit Regions/Divisions both at offices and on sites when required.
- Communicate with all regulatory bodies required.
- Comply with responsibilities as defined in the Group’s Health, Safety & Environment Policy and ensure compliance with the same throughout the team.
- Implement new ideas and methods and continue to seek ways of both improving contribution to the organisation’s goals and enhancing the reputation of the company.
- Deputise for/support the Group Senior Architectural Technologist/Technician where required.
To be successful in the role, we are looking for:
- Qualified as an Architectural Technician/Technologist to HNC level as a minimum.
- Good organisation and task management skills.
- A good technical knowledge of current regulations and associated legislation.
- An eloquent communicator interfacing with Divisional teams, sites and regulatory bodies.
- Ability to identify and solve problems effectively.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to work well in a team.
- A competent level of relevant IT skills including using AutoCAD/Revit.
