Senior Architect

OVERVIEW

Summary An experienced Architect, Interior Designer or Technician taking a lead role in projects.

A Senior must have a specific area of interest or expertise that they champion as well as always champion Barr Gazetas processes and rituals.

They will be a pro- active participant in project kick-offs, resourcing, project planning and setting deliverables.

• Full-time (37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday) or reduced hours as agreed by the Board

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Management
• Responsible for day-to-day management of projects
• Act as principal point of contact level for Client, Contractor, Project Managers, Consultants, Local Authority, and other external agencies
• Is aware of project running, profit levels and resourcing on CMAP and engaged with keeping it up to date
• Provide technical expertise and have regular briefing sessions with the internal design team
• Attend internal and external meetings and presentations
• Work on own initiative, but recognise need to delegate up and down
• Use communication skills to represent the Practice at all levels within the external design team
• Demonstrate the ability to communicate designs clearly and effectively
• Contract administration knowledge and application at a high level where applicable
• High level of self-motivation and initiative
• Lead, manage, delegate and motivate the design team
• Be aware of programming and resourcing to achieve all deadlines; proactively identify and resolve prior to notifying clients / contractors
• Expert knowledge of our CAD and BIM practices and software application tools; an ambassador of project set up
• Awareness of Risk Management to mitigate all project risks including H+S, CDM and Design
• Implement and maintain best in class QMS across the office
• Implement the Project Checklist at all stages and utilise the Climate Change Guidance and Heritage Checklists
• Attend networking/marketing events on behalf of BG and improve awareness of yourself and us
• Gather lessons learnt post project and implement improvements Understanding / developing strategies towards winning work; being engaged and attending pitches
• Become a collective group of knowledge and expertise within the office to guide architects and assistants
• Participate in mentoring more junior staff, be available and approachable to help with their development
• Be a champion of BG core values and practice rituals. Ensure all staff have full awareness of the importance of these and be responsible for their implementation on projects.
• Design & Project
• Lead the design team inhouse and brief/ monitor the external consultants and contractor teams
• Design for robustness and BG technical excellence; facilitate constant improvement
• Prepare design proposals for pitches, concepts and development
• Develop the design through all RIBA design stages using the BG best practice checklists
• Review design development against brief, third party and statutory obligations
• High standard of design direction applied through all project design development stages
• Utilise creative and innovative solutions that lead to sustainable projects and good decision making
• Be responsible for ensuring project is designed sustainably by all consultants at all RIBA design stages
• Champion design and technical quality generally in the practice. Participate in design reviews including outside of sector specialism and promote design and technical knowledge.
• Stay up to date with UK regulations, standards, future changes and best practice
• General Office
• Follow company policies and procedures and discharge your professional duties according to the RIBA and ARB Professional Code of Conduct and the Practice’s vision, values and strategy.
• Represent the Practice and positively enhance its reputation.
• Create and maintain a positive working environment for all staff.
• Be an ambassador at all times and an expert in our core work.
• Attend CPDs on a regular basis and maintain an up to date CPD record.
• Maintain an accurate record of all meetings and actions.
• Attend internal and external meetings, presentations and committee meetings.
• Contribute proactively and positively to Monday morning meetings and quarterly meetings.
• Represent the Practice at all levels, especially client liaison.
• Comply with the Practice Health and Safety Policy.
• Comply with CDM regulations whilst on site.
• Keep accurate timesheets and submit them in a timely manner.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Experience & Qualifications

• ARB qualification.
• In depth knowledge and understanding of all RIBA stages.
• Experience of running projects from inception to completion.
• An understanding of clients’ requirements and experience of client liaison.
• Strong understanding of construction contracts.
• Excellent knowledge of current legislation, standards, building technologies, environmental design and construction methods.

• Highly IT literate.
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
• Excellent knowledge of Auto CAD software and the Practice CAD Manual.
• Excellent knowledge of BIM and Revit software
• Good knowledge of graphic presentation software (Adobe In Design, Illustrator etc).
