OVERVIEW

Summary An experienced Architect, Interior Designer or Technician taking a lead role in projects. A Senior must have a specific area of interest or expertise that they champion as well as always champion Barr Gazetas processes and rituals. They will be a pro-active participant in project kick-offs, resourcing, project planning and setting deliverables.

Hours Full-time (37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday) or reduced hours as agreed by the Board

Responsible for Project excellence. Staff development & mentoring. BG rituals.

Reporting to Directors, Project Directors, Associates

RESPONSIBILITIES

Management

  • Responsible for day to day management of projects. Including being accountable for project management and must significantly contribute towards performance including design quality, technical excellence, client satisfaction, profitability, resourcing and staff wellbeing.
  • Act as principal point of contact at Associate level for Client, Contractor, Project Managers, Consultants, Local Authority and other external agencies.
  • Create and check appointment documentation with client and PI insurers.
  • Prepare resource plans and monitor.
  • Write fee bids, and fee proposals.
  • Lead the management of projects on CMAP (training given).
  • Ensure efficient project running and monitor CMAP target profit levels.
  • Manage Project Team at management level.
  • Provide design, technical, and delivery expertise and have regular briefing sessions with the team.
  • Provide a significant input into the Practice; with a specialism.
  • Attend internal and external meetings, presentations and committee meetings.
  • Use communication skills to represent the Practice at all levels especially Client liaison.
  • Administration skills applied to communicate design and management.
  • Lead, manage, delegate and motivate the design team. Proactively manage the programming and resourcing to achieve all deadlines.
  • Good working knowledge of our CAD and BIM practices and software application tools; an ambassador of project set up
  • Implementing and maintaining QMS across the office.
  • Attend networking/marketing events on behalf of the Practice and report via CRM emails.
  • Consider ways to reduce overheads and increase efficiency on projects.
  • Monday Morning Meetings contribution at all levels.
  • Office Quarterly Meetings contribution at all levels.
  • Contribute to the office Management and discuss relevant topics, areas of interest and help keep the Practice as leaders.
  • Act as mentor and coach to direct reports to facilitate their professional growth and development.
  • Be a champion of and accountable for BG core values and practice rituals.
  • Conduct staff appraisals.

Design & Project

  • Prepare design proposals for pitches, concepts and development.
  • Direct and initiate the design process and lead the inspiration and aspirations.
  • Review design development against brief, third party and statutory obligations.
  • High standard of design direction applied through all project design development stages.
  • Supervision of project design team.
  • Ensure all designs reach and exceeds practice aspirations.
  • Champion design and technical quality generally in the practice. Participate in design reviews including outside of sector specialism and promote design and technical knowledge.
  • Stay up to date with UK regulations, standards, future changes and best practice

General Office

  • Follow company policies and procedures and discharge your professional duties according to the RIBA and ARB Professional Code of Conduct and the Practice's vision, values and strategy.
  • Represent the Practice and positively enhance its reputation.
  • Create and maintain a positive working environment for all staff.
  • Be an ambassador at all times and an expert in our core work.
  • Attend CPDs on a regular basis and maintain an up to date CPD record.
  • Maintain an accurate record of all meetings and actions.
  • Attend internal and external meetings, presentations and committee meetings.
  • Contribute proactively and positively to Monday morning meetings and quarterly meetings.
  • Represent the Practice at all levels, especially client liaison.
  • Comply with the Practice Health and Safety Policy.
  • Comply with CDM regulations whilst on site.
  • Keep accurate timesheets and submit them in a timely manner.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Experience & Qualifications

  • ARB qualification.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of all RIBA stages.
  • Experience of running several projects simultaneously from inception to completion.
  • An understanding of clients' requirements and experience of client liaison.
  • An understanding of Practice issues in relation to legal and commercial, health and safety, CDM and insurance in relation to the office and staff.
  • A good understanding of employment law and best practice in relation to managing your team.
  • Experience of managing construction contracts.
  • Excellent knowledge of current legislation, standards, building technologies, environmental design and construction methods.

IT & Software

  • Highly IT literate.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD software and the Practice CAD Manual for reviewing and project planning purposes
  • Working knowledge of BIM and Revit software for reviewing and project planning purposes
  • Good knowledge of graphic presentation software (Adobe InDesign, Illustrator etc).
