The Role
The Junior Sous Chef will work alongside the Sous Chef and Head Chef to assist in managing the kitchen operations. You will lead by example, ensuring high standards of food preparation and presentation, while supporting the overall kitchen team.
Role Specification
- Assisting the Sous Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations, including food prep, cooking, and plating.
- Ensuring all food is prepared to the highest standards and in line with restaurant specifications.
- Supervising and mentoring junior kitchen staff, providing guidance and support in their development.
- Assisting the Head Chef in reducing wastage and assisting with ordering, stock control, and inventory management.
- Maintaining cleanliness, organisation, and health & safety standards within the kitchen.
- Collaborating with the Head Chef to create and develop new dishes and menu items.
- Ensuring consistent quality and timely service during busy periods.
- Managing kitchen equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and usage.
- Helping with training and motivating new kitchen team members.
Personal Specification – Essentials
- Have proven experience as a Chef de Partie or Junior Sous Chef in a high‑end restaurant/hotel.
- Have an excellent understanding of kitchen operations and food safety.
- Have the ability to work efficiently under pressure in a team environment.
- Have a creative flair with a passion for producing high‑quality dishes.
- Have exceptional leadership and communication skills.
- Be flexible to working evenings, weekends, and public holidays as needed.
- Have the ability to work in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure kitchen environment requiring long hours and the ability to stand for extended periods.

- Hold a relevant culinary qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 2 or equivalent) is advantageous.
Additional Information
- Full‑time – 40 hours per week.
- 4 days, 1 night required per week – this includes weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Typical shift patterns: 0730 – 1600 hrs, 1330 – 2200 hrs.
- Note: Full flexibility is key as you will be expected to work as and when necessary to meet the needs of the team and the business.
