Service Overview
Cardiff & Vales Substance Misuse Services provide support to individuals who use drugs or alcohol, their families, and communities. Services include early intervention, assessment, needle exchange, brief interventions, outreach, training, case management, health promotion, harm reduction, recovery, and aftercare. The Young Persons & Young Adults service is part of Barod's wider integrated substance misuse services across Cardiff & Vale.
Role Purpose
- Provide face-to-face therapeutic interventions and support to young people and young adults addressing drug and alcohol misuse, using models approved within the Cardiff Multi Disciplinary Team (MDT).
- Conduct triage, risk, and comprehensive assessments to identify needs, set goals, and develop support plans, reviewing progress regularly within the MDT setting.
- Manage a caseload of young individuals, fostering resilience and recovery until they transition to adult services or exit the program.
- Assist in developing and delivering group work and structured interventions, enhancing links to supportive services.
- Signpost service users to relevant agencies and empower them through informed decision-making.
- Maintain accurate client records and case notes.
- Engage service users in all aspects of their treatment journey.
- Stay informed on policies and best practices regarding substance misuse, building relationships with professionals and families.
- Share resources and increase knowledge within other services to facilitate appropriate referrals.
- Develop safeguarding interventions with partners and families in the community.
- Promote a positive profile of Barod and its services through networking and multi-agency collaboration.
- Adhere to Barod policies and procedures.
- Participate in monitoring, review, and evaluation activities.
- Support and supervise volunteers involved in service delivery.
- Cooperate with management and administrative requests.
- Attend internal meetings and participate in support and supervision arrangements.
- Perform other duties as reasonably required.
Minimum Requirements
- At least 12 months experience working with young people/young adults.
- Experience liaising and networking with various agencies and individuals.
- Knowledge of local areas and communities.
- Experience delivering training and group work.
- Ability to relate to young people, young adults, and their families.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Driving license and access to personal transport.
- Previous experience in the substance use sector or similar.
- Understanding of substance use treatment pathways.
- Welsh language speaker preferred.
- Knowledge of ACEs and trauma-informed approaches.
