The Manager will be integral to the running of a ground-breaking social enterprise café, which employs people in recovery from substance use. The Manager will play a vital role in supporting individuals back into meaningful employment, helping them develop confidence, structure, and pride through work. Alongside managing daily café operations, the Manager will mentor and lead a diverse team, providing on-the-job training, supporting staff to gain skills and recognised qualifications and creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive working environment. This is more than a hospitality role - it is an opportunity to make a genuine social impact, while delivering a high-quality café experience.

Benefits for this role:

  • Competitive salary (to be confirmed based on experience)
  • Meals, coffee and drinks when working
  • Supportive working environment with a friendly team
  • Opportunity to lead and shape a dedicated team as part of an exciting new social enterprise project
  • A varied, hands-on role with real responsibility
  • A range of other generous employee benefits

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role, you will:

  • Oversee the daily running of the café, ensuring high standards of service, food quality, food hygiene standards and cleanliness
  • Manage, motivate, and support a diverse team with varying needs, abilities, and experience levels
  • Plan staff rotas, manage attendance and support staff development and training
  • Work in the kitchen as required, including food preparation and cooking
  • Ensure all food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations are adhered to at all times
  • Manage stock control, ordering, deliveries, and supplier relationships
  • Handle customer feedback professionally and resolve any issues promptly
  • Monitor costs, reduce waste, and support the financial performance of the café
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, and productive working environment

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Ideally all these requirements must be met by the candidate on appointment. However, in certain circumstances, a candidate may be appointed who does not meet a particular requirement. This is providing that the shortfall can be made good with a commitment to working towards achieving these in a reasonable time, and that the candidate brings other skills, knowledge or experience which are valuable to the role and the Organisation.

  • Prior experience of working in a café, restaurant, or hospitality management role
  • Strong kitchen experience, including cooking and food preparation
  • Relevant food safety qualifications (e.g. Food Safety Level 3 or equivalent)
  • Sound knowledge of food hygiene, allergen management and health & safety regulations
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage a team with different requirements and working styles
  • Flexible approach to working hours, including weekends and busy periods
  • A proactive, hands-on attitude with strong problem-solving skills and an eye for detail
