Anexciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a full or part-time substantive consultantbreast surgeon to our highly regarded breast surgery service. We are looking fora dynamic and motivated breast surgeon to join our friendly, high-performing team.
Thebreast surgery department at Barnsley Hospital is nationally recognised as aleader in delivering 28 day Faster Diagnosis Standard (FDS) treatment targetsand delivers a service with the highest quality of care. In 2022, The breastsurgery team was recognised as an outstanding achiever by NHS England and abenchmark for NHS breast surgery services.
Theservice diagnoses and treats around 250 breast cancer patients yearly, with Barnsleysbreast screening service is located in the newly developed communitydiagnostics centre (CDC). The successful candidate would play a key role in theexpansion of our breast oncoplastic and reconstruction service as part of thebreast surgery team. This role does not have an emergency on call commitment.
Main duties of the job
Thispost will appeal to an appropriately trained surgeon who has a provensub-specialty interest in oncoplastic breast surgery. The appointee will have the enthusiasm to workwith colleagues to develop the service in line with national guidance,delivering high quality care to patients.
Thisrole will be working as part of a cohesive and motivated breast surgery teamand MDT. The post holder will conduct one-stop clinics with radiology supportand theatre lists on a bi-weekly basis. Radiology and nuclear medicine supportfor breast operating sessions is established.
Thisrole would be ideal for a candidate with an interest in continued professionaldevelopment and an interest in working in a forward thinking team withopportunities to become involved in departmental teaching. As a smaller sizedteam, you will have opportunities to lead on service development projects withsupport from your peers and implement changes that improve the quality of carethat the service provides.

Experience
- Relevant specialist breast surgery experience
- Competence in all aspects of breast surgery.
- Broad clinical experience in Breast Surgery.
- Oncoplastic training
Qualifications
- Full GMC Registration
- Fellowship/Membership of a Royal College of Surgeons or equivalent; and/or a higher degree.
- Applicants should be on the specialist register or be within 6 months of attaining CCT
- Relevant Higher Degree
