Recent investment in our facilitiesincludes expanded theatre capacity with a ninth operating theatre, a dedicatedSurgical Same Day Emergency Care unit and the introduction of robotic surgery,with plans for further expansion across specialties.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be accountable to theSupervising Consultants and the Clinical Lead for Surgery.

The successful applicant will have a job planbased on 10 sessions to include 1 Admin session and 1 SPA. Clinical activitywill be based on the General Surgery team timetable but some flexibility willbe required to meet service needs within the Specialty. The postholder willwork within clinics, theatres and endoscopy and will have access to trainingand development opportunities, including endoscopy and laparoscopic surgery.

The post holder will also be required to:

Beactively involved in daily ward rounds, MDTs and the teaching and supervisionof students and junior doctors

Keeplegible and detailed records as may be required

Communicatefully with patients, relatives, family doctors and other health and socialservice colleagues, (within the over-riding boundaries of confidentiality andrespecting patient wishes)

Participatein audit, Clinical Governance and educational sessions within the department

Takepart in the 1 in 9 middle grade on-call rota (potential change to 1 in 10)

Deputisefor absent colleagues, within reason

Performadditional duties in relation to occasional emergencies and unforeseencircumstances

Beavailable for such irregular commitments outside normally rostered duties asare essential for continuity of patient care

Professional registration

• Full registration with the General Medical Council

Qualifications

• MBChB in Medicine or equivalent
• MRCS
• Higher Surgical Qualification

Experience

• A minimum of four years surgical training (ideally 2 years basic surgical training and 2 years in your surgical specialty)
