This is a very exciting opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary team in the Emergency Department, supporting Barnsley patients with acute primary care presentations. We are looking for high quality primary care doctors who can manage acute presentations and enjoy the vibrant environment of an Emergency Department and relish the opportunity to engage with other clinicians with different skill sets to our mutual benefit. We are looking to learn from one another to achieve better outcomes for our patients.
There is high demand for this service and so it is a fantastic opportunity for the successful applicant to work with the Emergency Department Clinical Lead and Matron to develop this service and ensure continuous quality improvement. We are looking to cover a 7 days a week service with shift patterns of 08:00-18:00 and 12:00-22:00.
Main duties of the job
The majority of the patients in the Primary Care stream present with illnesses which would be very familiar to a General Practitioner. Our patients include adults and children of all ages. If you enjoy managing patients who are at the acute end of the normal spectrum of Primary Care presentations then this is the job for you.
You will regularly interact with the rest of the clinical team in ED and we welcome discussion within the team when looking to find the best way to manage each patient. You will have access to basic diagnostics (e.g. urinalysis), although we would expect the majority of our Primary Care patients would be managed without blood tests or radiology.
We are looking for individuals whose key strengths are their clinical acumen and decision making. However, if after your assessment, you feel diagnostics are required there will be a seamless transfer to other clinicians within the multi-disciplinary team. You will be part of that team.
You will also attend regular meetings with the ED Leads to discuss and shape our Primary Care service. So if you feel you can help us further develop this service you should apply.
