We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual to work as a Locum Consultant in ENT Surgery. The appointee will work closely with the existing consultants and other members of the multi‑disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive service to patients. This post will appeal to appropriately trained and accredited clinicians who have enthusiasm and who are looking for a stimulating and challenging career. The opportunity exists for appropriately trained registrars or experienced consultants, and candidates must be on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of achieving this.

The post will be based at Barnsley Hospital with weekday on‑call covering Barnsley hospitals only and weekend on‑calls including Sheffield and Chesterfield hospitals. The post‑holder will also be expected to have a role in the training and teaching of registrars, junior doctors, medical students, nurses and other health professionals. The Trust is happy to consider flexible working arrangements and/or extended days to deliver a desirable work‑life balance, support professional goals and personal development.

Person Specification

  • Experience: Experience of the management of all common ENT conditions and broad clinical experience in Otology, FESS and Head & Neck Surgery.
  • Training: Higher Surgical Training in ENT and obtained CCST/CCT or equivalent. Training in sub‑specialist area of practice.
  • Management: Understanding of current NHS issues and efficient management of resources. Organisation and time management skills.
  • Audit: Experience of participation in regular clinical audit, and ability to organise and present audits.
  • Qualifications: Full GMC Registration. Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview). CESR or European Community Rights. Relevant Higher Degree.
  • Research: Evidence of clinical papers published in peer‑reviewed journals. Broad experience of medical research and presentations at national or regional conferences.
  • Teaching: Experience of training medical undergraduates and postgraduates. Training the Trainers. Experience of supervising research by junior staff. Completion of Education Supervisor training.
