Consultant Paediatrician with Epilepsy interest

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Consultant Paediatrician with an epilepsy interest and a passion for epilepsy care to join our team of elevenconsultant paediatricians.

The post holder will provide local epilepsy servicefor Barnsley and will also take part in hot week service.

We have a proactive and modern service with closeliaison between the Hospital and Community Departments.

There have closeworking links with our tertiary centre at Sheffield Childrens Hospital and areclosely supported by them to manage complex epilepsy patients.

The post-holderwill play an active role in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, contributing to high-quality training for the next generation of clinicians.

There are also opportunities to engage in research.

Main duties of the job

• We are looking for a motivated, forward-thinking Consultant who is eager to:
• Lead and innovate within our epilepsy services.
• Contribute to service development and re-evaluation as well as National Audits and research
• Work collaboratively within a supportive, highly skilled multidisciplinary team (providing support and advice to specialist nurses, resident doctors with regards to epilepsy) and regional network for Epilepsy.
• Actively contributes to the paediatric hot week rota, providing senior clinical leadership, and ensuring high-quality patient care during periods of increased service demand.
• The post holder will maintain the highest clinical standards in epilepsy, general paediatric and neonatology by ensuring responsibility for their own continuing medical education and professional development.
• The successful candidate will work collaboratively with consultant colleagues in the day-to-day management of the Paediatric Department, actively contributing to clinical governance, quality improvement and audit programmes.
• The duties of the post will be reviewed through an annual job planning process undertaken jointly by the Consultant, Clinical Lead and Service Manager, ensuring that responsibilities remain aligned with service needs and professional development objectives.

Experience

• Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a wide range of problems within acute paediatric and neonatal medicine.
• Broad based experience in Specialty.
• Experience of managing children with epilepsy.
• Expertise and experience of safeguarding at Specialist Registrar or Consultant level.
• Commitment to the development and maintenance of safeguarding skills.
• Trained to level three in safeguarding.
• Experience of formal and on the job clinical teaching.
• Commitment to under- and post-graduate and multidisciplinary teaching and training.
• Enthusiasm to teach clinical skills.
• Able to deliver high quality paediatric care.
• Knowledge and experience of clinical audit.
• Logical, analytical and self-critical approach to clinical practice.
• Understanding of research techniques and design.
• Ability and commitment to practice evidence based medicine.
• Evidence of managing children with more complex epilepsy and working independently.

Qualifications

• MRCPCH or equivalent.
• Full GMC registration and license to practice.
• CCT in General Paediatrics or within 6 months of achieving CCT at the time of interview.
• Imminent completion of PET 1, 2 and 3.
• SPIN in Epilepsy.
• Higher degree such as MD or MSc.
• Evidence of organisational and change management skills.
• Disclosure and Barring Service Check
