We're looking for an enthusiastic and empathetic Activity Coordinator to join our dynamic teams on our medical wards at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, who will help to enhance the hospital experience for our patients.

The ward activity coordinator will contribute towards the ward enhancing patient wellbeing, supporting recovery through therapeutic activities, and the prevention of hospital-acquired deconditioning by promoting physical activity, mental stimulation, and meaningful engagement throughout their stay.

Main duties of the job

As an activity coordinator, you'll play a key role in enriching the daily lives of patients by delivering meaningful, therapeutic activities that support both mental and physical wellbeing. Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, you'll contribute to reducing hospital-acquired deconditioning by encouraging movement, engagement, and social interaction throughout the patients' stay. The activity coordinator will:

  • Plan and facilitate daily activities such as arts and crafts, music sessions, quizzes, games, and gentle movement.
  • Organise themed events, seasonal celebrations, and therapeutic group sessions.
  • Provide one-to-one engagement for patients who may be isolated or unable to join group activities.
  • Collaborate with clinical teams to ensure activities align with care plans and recovery goals.
  • Encourage patient participation to boost morale, reduce anxiety, and promote social interaction.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of activities on patient wellbeing.
  • Gather information about patients to support in the planning of patient activities.
