This is an opportunity to join a dedicated, motivated, exciting and supportive specialised assistive technology team. Our team has an excellent national and international reputation for quality, innovation and research and development. We deliver regional services for communication aids and environmental control across the Yorkshire and Humber region and are directly commissioned by NHS England as a specialised service.
This post is a predominately field based role for an Assistive Technology Technician. In this role you will independently work on site and in the community, manage a caseload of clients and carry out field servicing of high value, complex equipment provided by the department, which will include the installation, servicing and maintenance of such equipment.
We are looking for individuals who are skilled multidisciplinary craftspeople; who have experience of field servicing in the community (traveling across different sites in personal vehicle); have experience of equipment maintenance, repair and configuration; have excellent independent technical fault finding, diagnosis and remediation skills; who have practical engineering knowledge of a wide range of mechanical and/or electronic processes and tools; have knowledge of assistive technology equipment and the associated benefits to our clients; who have excellent communication skills; and who are able to work with individuals who have severe physical and communication difficulties.
Main duties of the job include working across Yorkshire and Humber in installing and maintaining communication aids and environmental controls (including computer access equipment and some wheelchair controls). You will help deliver a high-quality service to our clients and be responsible for ensuring the safe and effective provision of this complex technology, working within a client focused and dedicated multi-disciplinary team.

Job responsibilities include:
- Highly skilled in an engineering specialism relevant to role.
- Excellent technical fault finding and diagnosis skills.
- Ability to independently make decisions regarding technical fault finding and remedial actions.
- Dexterity, co-ordination and sensory skills for use of fine tools.
- Skills in training in technical topics and the use of equipment.
- Ability to work independently within the applicable competencies and policies.
- Ability to demonstrate flexible and innovative thinking in designing solutions for individual clients.
- IT literate with experience of a range of common applications and operating systems.
Qualifications required include a relevant Engineering qualification equivalent to Level 4 or equivalent qualifications and experience, and a commitment to working towards registration as a Clinical Technologist.
Experience required includes:
- Experience of field servicing of equipment.
- Experience of equipment setup, configuration, assembly and provision.
- Experience of carrying out equipment planned preventative maintenance.
- Experience of risk assessment and other relevant procedures relating to the safe provision of equipment.
- Experience of assistive technology (AAC & EC) device configuration and provision.
Knowledge and awareness should include appropriate engineering knowledge, practical engineering knowledge related to engineering specialism, and knowledge of the role of assistive technology (AAC & EC) and benefits to service users.
