Barnsley Facilities Services is looking for a motivated and capable Project Manager to join our Capital Projects Team at an exciting time of growth and investment across our healthcare estate. This internal opportunity may suit an experienced Project Manager or an individual who is ready to take the next step in their career and develop further within a supportive estates project environment. However, this is a substantive project management role, and the successful candidate will be expected to take responsibility for managing projects from the outset, with appropriate support and oversight.

The role will support the delivery of a diverse and ambitious capital programme across the Trust estate. This is a busy, fast-paced and demanding portfolio, requiring strong organisation, resilience, effective stakeholder management and the ability to manage competing priorities. The successful candidate will help ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards. Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for managing a range of capital and estates projects from inception through to completion.
  • Develop project plans, coordinate resources, manage budgets, monitor progress and help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and within agreed timescales.
  • Work with colleagues across BFS and the Trust, as well as external consultants, contractors and suppliers.
  • Manage day-to-day project activity, identifying and escalating risks, resolving issues and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, NHS guidance, health and safety requirements and internal governance processes.
  • Prepare and maintain key project documentation, including project plans, business cases, cost estimates, risk registers, procurement documentation and progress reports.
  • Provide clear and timely updates to senior managers, project sponsors and key stakeholders.
  • Build positive working relationships, contribute to service improvement and support the delivery of a challenging and ambitious capital programme.
  • Work with pace, professionalism and accountability, while also being supported to continue developing your project management skills and experience.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Able to carry out condition appraisals on maintenance and investigative work to the highest level.
  • Extensive experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrate ability in the management of contractors and sub-contractors, architects and design engineers.
  • Experience acting as sole internal advisor in relation to building construction issues as and when required to do so.
  • Specialist experience in complex modern building and engineering construction techniques and methods.

Qualifications

  • Degree level or equivalent in a services trade (building, architecture, surveying or engineering).
  • Specialist knowledge gained through extensive relevant experience in hospital estates environment.
  • Chartered professional status in building or engineering discipline (e.g. RICS, RIBA, MechE, MICE).

Knowledge and awareness

  • Fully conversant with modern installation and testing techniques.
  • To be abreast of modern technology and new, highly specialist techniques.
  • A sound understanding of confidentiality.
  • Knowledge and understanding of best estates practices.
  • Specialist knowledge in the numerous procurement methods for capital schemes.
  • Highly proficient in the use of standard IT packages for word processing and spreadsheets, and complex CAD software and project management software.
  • Understanding of health & safety issues relating to building, engineering and construction.
  • Specialist knowledge of the design process within the NHS including building, planning, construction design management.
  • Fully conversant with health service building and engineering procedures such as health technical memoranda and health building notes.
