An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Research Nurse to join the Research & Development team at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This role will support the continued growth of our research portfolio across the hospital and high street locations, helping to expand access to high-quality clinical research for our local population.

Working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the delivery of a diverse portfolio of commercial and non-commercial studies, embedding research within clinical services and supporting the Trusts ambition to increase research activity and participation. You will work closely with clinical teams, the Lead Nurse for Research & Development and the wider R&D service to help identify, set up, and deliver studies in line with NIHR targets and Good Clinical Practice.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 Research Nurse, you will be responsible for the safe and effective delivery of a portfolio of clinical research studies from set-up through to close-down, ensuring all activity is conducted in accordance with study protocols, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Trust policies and regulatory requirements. You will independently screen, recruit, consent and support participants throughout their research journey, maintaining accurate and high-quality documentation at all times.

You will coordinate and deliver research visits, collect and process samples where required, and ensure adverse events are identified, documented and escalated appropriately to protect participant safety. Working collaboratively with clinical teams, you will support the integration of research into routine practice, helping to grow research activity across the hospital and Health on the High Street setting.

The role includes providing advice and guidance to staff involved in research, contributing to education and training, and acting as a visible advocate for research within the organisation. You will support governance processes, monitoring and audit activity, and contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives, playing a key role in strengthening the Trusts research culture and delivery.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) with post registration experience and education
  • Health/ Biological Degree or equivalent research experience
  • GCP Accreditation (or willingness to obtain)
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Teaching qualification
  • Recognised Leadership development programme attendance

Experience

  • Clinical / research experience at Band 5 or above.
