You will support Midwifery staff with administrative duties including digital referrals, document preparation, and general ward administration, while also assisting the Lead Midwife with daily operational tasks. This is a patient-facing role requiring excellent communication and interpersonal skills, compassion, professionalism, and confidence when supporting women, families, and visitors within the maternity environment. The ability to remain calm, organised, and efficient under pressure is essential. The post supports the maternity service across a 7 day rota and requires flexibility to meet the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job:

  • Answer and direct calls
  • Print and file paperwork and documentation ensuring that patient notes are kept neat and chronologically filed
  • Support midwifery staff and the Lead with printing, filing and digital referrals
  • Maintain digital referrals as per the request of doctors
  • Arrange follow up for mums and babies
  • Deal with patients and the public
  • Maintain safety of the Families on our ward
  • Support other areas of our maternity service

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 Grade 9-4 GCSEs or relevant equivalent knowledge/experience.
  • NVQ in customer care/or relevant equivalent knowledge/experience.
  • Recognised IT qualification.

Knowledge and Awareness:

  • Understanding of the need for confidentiality and data protection.
  • Awareness of Health and Safety requirements.
  • Computer skills and knowledge of Windows based computer packages.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal/telephone communication skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritise workload.

Experience:

  • Previous clerical/administrative experience.
  • Experience of direct telephone contact with patients/clients and staff.
  • Experience of working with staff at all levels.
  • Experience of working with IT systems in a care environment.
  • Previous NHS or similar experience.
