An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, highly motivated Occupational Health Professional to join our SEQOHS accredited Occupational Health and Wellbeing service based at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and at our other site at Rotherham Hospital NHS Trust. The role will require you to provide clinical expertise in relation to occupational health issues to support the delivery of a high standard service with a clear focus on prevention and effective attendance management. The post holder will support the day‑to‑day management of the Occupational Health service, providing support to junior clinical and administrative team members, and will be based across our service on the Barnsley Hospital Foundation Trust site and Rotherham Hospital Foundation Trust site. The post holder will have substantial occupational health experience at a specialist level within a large organisation with a proven track record of meeting local/national targets.

Main duties of the job:

  • Deputise for the Lead Occupational Health and Wellbeing Specialist Nurse Practitioner.
  • Participate in the provision of a high‑quality Occupational Health and Wellbeing service to clients of Barnsley Occupational Health Service, including the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of Occupational Health needs, activities and standards.
  • Deliver specialist Occupational Health advice within the Trust and to external client groups as per agreed contracts and Service Level Agreements.
  • Promote Occupational Health and Wellbeing within the Trust and maintain an understanding and good working relationships with all client groups.
  • Respond to professional developments in Occupational Health practice and Health and Safety legislation.
  • Be aware of new initiatives and develop policies to ensure that legal requirements are communicated effectively to clients to minimise health and safety risks.

Qualifications:

  • In possession of a diploma/degree in Occupational Health, or Registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse, with Specialist Practitioner Status.
  • Previous experience of Occupational Health nursing in the NHS.
  • First line management course.
  • Basic Counselling Course.

Experience:

  • Experience of supervising and motivating staff.
  • Experience of developing/willingness to learn to implement National Guidance/Health and Safety Policy into Knowledge of Occupational Health Policy and procedure.
  • Experience of gathering data and producing reports.
  • Experience of developing evidence‑based practice.

Knowledge and Awareness:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and OH computer systems (i.e. OPAS / COHORT).

Person Specification:

  • Strong clinical and managerial knowledge of occupational health.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and quality improvement.
