The interviews will be held W/C 9th February 2026 The Phlebotomy team play an important role in supporting patient pathways through the hospital. You should like meeting people and working as part of a team, putting people at ease, and be responsible and reliable. It is essential that you are careful, methodical and enjoy following rules and procedures to carry out this role. The role includes obtaining blood samples from patients and ensuring their safe delivery to the laboratory for testing. Experience is essential. You will be required to work independently at the Community Diagnostic Centre, and on the main hospital site, performing obtaining blood samples and overseeing reception duties. Main duties of the job Communicate clearly with patients using sensitivity and empathy to ensure the patient fully understands and gains clear consent to the procedure they will be undergoing, paying particular attention to patients where there may be barriers to understanding and advising appropriately. Ensure a minimum data set is recorded on every patient’s request form and ensure that all pre-test requirements have been followed by the patient prior to venepuncture taking place, resolving any issues according to SOPs. Use the Trust Order Comms IT system to retrieve and print request forms already generated by the requesting physician. Use Qpulse – Pathology software programme to acknowledge new and reviewed documents, report incidents, ensure training and competencies are up to date. Use Careflow to record patient information and data. Ensure all samples, personally generated, are correctly labelled in accordance with minimum data set requirements and paying attention to detail according to SOP. Postholder will ensure all personally generated samples are transported to the Laboratories as soon as is practicable, either personally or via the Hospital Chute System or via the Hospital transport/taxi service when working in the community, according to SOP. Knowledge and Awareness Have undertaken and been deemed competent in the theory and practical training of venepuncture or be prepared to complete this training and assessment. Understand the need for confidentiality. Aware of Health and Safety requirements. Knowledge of Infection Control. First aid trained. Experience Experience of working with the public. Experience of the Health Care setting. Previous experience of having practiced regular venepuncture. Qualifications Willingness to work towards a competency-based Venepuncture Training Package. Recorded in a competency book. See additional competency package. Willingness to undertake Customer care experience/training. Training provided in relation to waiting list management. Training provided in relation to receptionist duties. Training provided in relation to point of contact tests.
