Job summary

This role is a 12 month fixed term/secondment opportunity.

We are committed to delivering high quality, safe care to the infants and families requiring our service. We recognise that the professional development of our multi-disciplinary team is vital in achieving this objective.

We are seeking a nurse that is clinically credible, confident and skilled in supporting the development of colleagues. It is an exciting time to join the team as we are expanding our critical care workforce; you will participate in teaching and supervision that enables the development of knowledge, skills and confidence.

You must have recent Band 6 experience of working in a Neonatal unit, hold a Critical Care and NLS qualification.

To fulfil the education role, you need to be creative and innovative to design training opportunities that meet a variety of learning needs. You will be involved with the delivery of clinical skills sessions, simulated clinical assessments and mandatory training.

Main duties of the job

This role requires the post holder to:

  1. Work collaboratively to provide a comprehensive induction for staff joining or progressing into Neonatal Critical Care roles.
  2. Work alongside staff providing clinical supervision to support the development of confidence and competence.
  3. Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of education programmes delivered to clinical staff.
  4. Support the recruitment and retention of staff by providing clinical training and education that builds confidence and competence within the HDU/ITU environment.
  5. Support the development of leadership skills by working alongside new band 6 nurses as they ‘take charge’ in the clinical environment.
  6. Independently design, deliver and evaluate clinical skills training which will involve elements of research, structured session plans, formal and informal teaching styles and the ability to assess staff competence.
  7. Record details of training delivered, identify any performance related issues and devise action plans to support performance and capability.
  8. Promote a positive attitude to learning and be a role model for excellent practice / professional conduct.
