Overview

The successful candidate will be based at Barnsley Museums as a Visitor Services Assistant. Two posts are available: permanent at Elsecar Heritage Centre and temporary at Worsbrough Mill & Country Park until 31 March 2026, with work at other sites as needed.

Salary: £26,403 – £28,142. Working arrangements: rota basis, 5 days in 7. Hours per week: 37. Contract type: 1 x Permanent, 1 x Fixed Term until 31/03/2026. Suitable for Secondment: employees wishing to be considered for secondment should agree with their head of service before submitting an application form (Fixed Term Post only).

  • Greeting visitors and leading tours
  • Supporting volunteers
  • Caring for collections
  • Helping keep sites clean and welcoming
  • Selling souvenirs and craft items in our shops

About the Roles

  • These roles will be based at Elsecar Heritage Centre (permanent post) and at Worsbrough Mill & Country Park (temporary post until 31 March 2026); you may be asked to work at other sites as needed
  • Weekend work is a regular part of the role on a rota basis so you can work any 5 in 7 days

Requirements and Considerations

  • English must be spoken to an appropriate standard
  • Post requires a Basic Criminal Record Check
  • Prospective employees may need to explain any time living abroad in the past 3 years
  • When applying, be prepared to start work with the necessary legal documents (e.g., valid visa). The organisation does not possess a Home Office sponsor licence and cannot sponsor visa applications as a skilled or temporary migrant worker
  • This role is defined as a safety critical role within the Drug & Alcohol Testing Procedure
  • Pensions Regulations may affect pension entitlements if returning to local government service; seek advice from the Pensions Authority
