Democratic and Member Services is at the heart of the Council, providing essential support to Councillors.
We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and professional Relief Mayoral Attendant / Chauffeur to provide personal and logistical support to the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and civic parties when the Mayor’s Attendant is unavailable at times such as leave or sickness , includ ing evenings and weekends .
As a Relief Mayoral Attendant / Chauffeur, you will serve as a personal advisor, providing guidance to the Mayor, Deputy Mayor on things such as appropriate attire , event arrangements, procedures, and protocols, both within and beyond the Town Hall when attending engagements .
You will be required to provide advice to staff at engagements along with maintain ing and valeting the official civic car s and conduct ing routine maintenance checks to ensure their readiness for official visits . It will also be you r responsibility to p lan routes to and from engagements whilst adher ing to tight schedules and deadlines.
Representing the Council and the Borough, you will act as an ambassador, upholding and promoting the status and reputation of Barnsley and its traditional Mayoralty . At times, you may also be required to fulfil the role of Mace Bearer, being responsible for the careful handling and upkeep of civic insignia and robes.
Your official duties will include accompanying the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, acting as Master of Ceremonies, welcoming guests, facilitating formal introductions and escorting visitors on guided tours of the Town Hall.
The successful candidate will need a full and clean driving licence and be required to meet a satisfactory standard during a driving test which will be carried out by the Council’s examiner and have past experience in a post with civic or business protocol activities .
