Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive housing advice and manage a varied caseload.
- Work across partners to find innovative ways to prevent homelessness.
- Work proactively to prevent homelessness wherever possible, helping households remain in their homes or secure suitable alternative accommodation at the earliest opportunity.
- Carry out assessments, develop personalised housing plans, and deliver prevention and relief duties under the Homelessness Reduction Act.
- Work in partnership with internal services and external agencies.
- Use a strengths‑based, trauma‑informed approach, supporting people to access appropriate housing, sustain tenancies, and avoid repeat homelessness.
- Contribute to improved outcomes for individuals, families and the wider community.
- Be based in the main office in Barnsley town centre, but may need to attend other locations and carry out home visits.
- Support delivery of the National Plan to End Homelessness for survivors of domestic abuse and ensure access to safe, secure housing at the point of crisis and beyond.
- Provide specialist housing advice and casework for people fleeing domestic abuse, ensuring safety, choice, and dignity are at the centre of all decisions.
- Work closely with local domestic abuse services (IDAS), refuges, social care, health, and criminal justice partners to prevent homelessness, secure appropriate accommodation, and support longer‑term recovery and stability.
- Focus on early intervention, rapid access to safe housing options, using a trauma‑informed, survivor‑centred approach.
- Ensure statutory homelessness duties are met while supporting the council’s wider commitment to ending repeat homelessness and reducing harm.
- Be based in the main office in Barnsley town centre but also work in other locations across Barnsley, such as IDAS, the Refuge, and Safe Accommodation locations.
