Role Overview

We are seeking to appoint an Education Support Tutor to support our teaching team and facilitate the smooth and effective delivery of the curriculum across all school subject areas. This full‑time, term‑time only position is based in the Barnsley Education Support Service (BESS), the borough‑wide service supporting children and young people temporarily unable to attend school.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver personalised 1:1 education support to pupils unable to attend school, sometimes including small group work.
  • Adapt pre‑planned learning activities with stimulating and creative approaches.
  • Support pupils’ progress and facilitate their return to school.
  • Build quality, productive working relationships with pupils of all school ages.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents and external agencies to ensure a seamless learning experience.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Speak English to an appropriate standard.
  • Pass an Enhanced DBS Check.
  • Experience working with learners with diverse needs is highly desirable.
  • Good organisational and communication skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • UK citizenship or right to work in the UK (no sponsorship).
