Background:

Barnsley YJS is an innovative statutory service that works with adolescents who are often the most complex, yet under-represented children in our community. We work under a Child First approach that actively engages children and families to support repairing harm, by co-producing plans that will reduce risks, make our community safer, and give the child the best chance of a positive and rewarding life. As we continue to push to achieve best standards, we are determined to have for our children a rich and empowering programme of group and 1-2-1 interventions our desistence portfolio.

The post:

  • You will champion service improvement using evidence-based approaches, demonstrating a proven track record in effective group delivery, evaluation, and intervention. Your expertise will help ensure our services are impacting, inspiring and continuously evolving to meet the needs of young people.
  • Working in a role of relative seniority, you will work with managers, and alongside our workforce to:
  • Coordinate and deliver group interventions, using research-backed methods to promote desistance from offending.
  • Develop new interventions, based on need, managing the project from concept inception to delivery phase
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of programmes and interventions and drive service improvement.
  • Hold responsibility for high delivery standards to always ensure inspection readiness, through practice QA and skills development within the wider service.
  • Provide ad hoc and structured mentoring support to motivate and inspire young people, empowering them towards positive futures.
  • Work collaboratively with partners and stakeholders to ensure Barnsleys systemic response to key issues is aligned, thus enhancing outcomes for our client group.
  • Co-ordinate the delivery of programmes by the wider staff group – management of key processes and supervising staff where required.

You:

  • You have a relentless drive to help children, rooted in experience of working with children who are impacted by crime, exploitation or other adverse child experiences
  • You will be proven in direct delivery of programmes of structured work and/or comprehensive programmes of street-based/community interventions to adolescents.
  • You will have experience of engaging and inspiring adolescent children with complex needs or a history of exposure to exploitation, harm or the criminal justice system
  • You will have the skill to devise evidence-based and effective programmes of intervention, building in evaluation to ensure impact can be measured
  • You will have a sound knowledge of key issues that impact on youth offending, the daily lives of cohort and of contemporary approaches to achieve best outcomes in response
  • You will be highly resilient and tenacious in your work, professionally gravitating towards – not shy away, from working directly with children who will challenge you every day.
