Barnsley Council is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong communication skills and attention to detail to support our team of experienced surveyors and the wider Council through accurate data input and the ongoing maintenance of the Council’s property information, including the Asset Register and Terrier systems. A major element of the work will involve working alongside surveyors to maintain data for the Council’s Strategic Housing New Build and Acquisition programme. The aim of the Programme is to increase the Council’s affordable housing stock by buying residential properties and supporting the development of new build properties on Council owned land through direct build and joint venture opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Assist and support the Principal Technician and Senior Technician to ensure the delivery, maintenance and continual improvement of the Asset Register and Terrier systems by capturing and verifying geographic and textual data from transfer documentation, conveyances, leases and tenancies, etc., and inputting information onto computerised systems.
- Be a point of contact for the Council in respect of general land ownership enquiries.
- Collaborate with surveyors to maintain data for the Strategic Housing New Build and Acquisition programme.
- Capture and verify geographic and textual data, conduct land and property surveys, and use CAD and GIS systems to produce visual plans.
- Assist with resolving boundary disputes and managing records of land and property interests.
- Contribute to transferring data to a corporate GIS, promoting e-business and accessibility.
- Provide training to new users of the Asset Register and Terrier (GIS) systems.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail; ability to work with experienced professionals.
- Willingness to use initiative to solve problems with a passion for property matters.
- Prepared to start work with all necessary legal documents, such as a valid visa, relevant to the type of work; note that the organisation does not possess a Home Office license and cannot provide sponsorship for visa applicants.
