Overview

In this role you will provide specialist public health intelligence to inform needs assessment, commissioning, and planning. You will turn complex health and determinants data into clear insight to support decision-making and reduce health inequalities. You’ll work in a supportive Public Health team at Barnsley Council, producing reports, dashboards, and visualisations for diverse audiences. This is an opportunity to help shape local health intelligence at a pivotal time of team development.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialist public health intelligence to inform needs assessment, commissioning, service planning, performance management and decision-making
  • Carry out complex analysis of health and wider determinants data and manage allocated projects independently
  • Produce analytical outputs (reports, dashboards, needs assessments, briefings, visualisations) and communicate findings to varied audiences
  • Support data sharing, data quality, and information governance across partners (Council, NHS, UKHSA, ICB, voluntary sector)
  • Collaborate with colleagues and partners to drive data-driven decision making and continuous improvement in use of data and intelligence
  • Contribute to establishing and shaping the new Public Health Intelligence team
  • Communicate findings clearly in written, verbal and visual formats to influence planning and delivery

Key requirements

  • Degree-level qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development; postgraduate study or specialist training in public health/epidemiology/statistics/public health intelligence desirable
  • Strong understanding of information governance, data protection, confidentiality, data sharing, and data quality for public sector data
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex datasets using statistical, epidemiological, and analytical methods
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex findings to diverse audiences
  • Ability to build effective working relationships, manage competing priorities, and contribute to service improvements
