About the Post
Barnsley Libraries serve as community and digital hubs. As a Relief Library Assistant you will act as the public face of our service, covering front‑line duties on an as and when basis. Your role involves assisting customers with book choices, informing them about digital offers, and supporting interactive activities such as craft workshops. You will also collaborate with partners across the authority in communities, public health, museums and schools to deliver engaging experiences for residents and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide customer service and support in library operations.
- Assist library users with book selections, digital resources and interactive activities.
- Work across libraries, including short‑notice requests, with flexible hours.
- Collaborate with cross‑department partners to deliver events and initiatives.
Requirements
- Speak English to an appropriate standard.
- Have a Basic Criminal Record Check.
- Be able to give a reasonable account of any significant periods (≥6 months in the past 3 years) of living abroad.
- Be willing to start work with required legal documents; the council does not sponsor work visas.
