Become a Health Inequalities Community Connector and be part of exciting changes in Barnsley. The role will be hosted in our Resilient Communities team and focuses on improving healthy life expectancy and quality of life for residents who face the poorest health outcomes. You will work directly with local people, community groups, Area Council teams and other services to understand issues, connect residents with opportunities, develop new activities, promote existing opportunities and link up services in targeted geographical areas of Barnsley. The role actively encourages participation with communities, using creative methods to understand their health needs and assets, and supports them to develop, deliver and sustain projects that improve health, wellbeing, resilience and cohesion.

Responsibilities

  • Engage residents and community groups to identify health and wellbeing challenges and facilitate participation in health improvement initiatives.
  • Leverage creative approaches to community involvement, developing interventions that support communities requiring the most help.
  • Promote and link participants with local services and opportunities to improve health outcomes.
  • Develop new activities and support the delivery of projects that foster health, wellbeing, resilience and cohesion.
  • Work closely with partners and local services to build and sustain relationships that bring about change in Barnsley.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience leading community involvement and participation projects with a health and wellbeing focus.
  • Understanding of health inequalities and strategies to address these within communities.
  • Ability to utilise creative approaches to community involvement to improve health and wellbeing outcomes.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for local community development.
  • Proficiency in working with diverse communities and ability to build partnership working.

  • Basic Criminal Record Check.
  • Appropriate English language proficiency.
  • Ability to provide a reasonable account of any significant periods of living abroad (6 months or more in the past 3 years).
  • Required to start work with valid legal documents, including a valid visa.
