This role is defined as a safety critical role within the Drug & Alcohol Testing Procedure. You must therefore be willing to comply with this procedure.

About The Post

We are seeking a highly motivated staff member to join our fast-paced and high-performing Street Cleansing team within Neighbourhood Services, performing a vital function as a Driver.

The key duties include:

  • Undertaking operational duties such as emptying street bins, litter picking and clearing fly tipping outdoors in all weathers, involving physically and mentally demanding tasks.
  • Be polite, friendly, and approachable, ensuring compliance with BMBC customer care policies.
  • Driving a council vehicle (without trailers) and using powered, mechanical and hand tools to complete varied workloads.
  • Compliance with relevant legislative and health and safety requirements.
  • Working to agreed schedules and workloads to meet service priorities.
  • Supporting partner services and departments to aid in delivering social and cultural events in the town centre where necessary.
  • Working to support the service as requested by management. (This list is not exhaustive.)

The role will be based at Smithies Lane Depot, subject to change according to service requirements. You will report to a Team Leader and will be expected to carry out allocated work to a high standard of safety and quality. You will have experience of working in all weather conditions and be able to perform duties under pressure to meet targets while remaining effective and efficient. You must hold a valid UK driving licence.
