About the Post

We are recruiting a Cycle Mechanic to support our active travel initiatives, including the town centre Active Travel Hub and mobile unit. The role involves servicing cycles, maintaining equipment, engaging with the public, and supporting our cycle and e‑cycle loan scheme.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and operational delivery of the active travel hub and mobile active travel hub services.
  • Provide advice and support to the public.
  • Support community engagement activities.
  • Support the cycle and e‑cycle loan scheme.
  • Support secure cycle parking operations.
  • Deliver bike servicing and maintenance checks.
  • Support bike recycling and deployment.
  • Support marketing and communications.
  • Work closely with others in the Sport & Physical Activity Team to support the wider walk, cycle and active travel offer in schools, workplaces, and communities, including supporting cycling and walking activities as part of engagement work.

Qualifications

  • A Level 4 or cycle mechanic qualification (e.g., Cytech) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in cycle servicing, fleet management or cycle delivery.
  • A flexible approach and commitment to helping more people cycle in Barnsley.
  • Customer-facing experience and the ability to create a welcoming, positive experience.

Work Hours

  • Variable shifts with occasional weekend work.
