About The Role

Working out of a newly refurbished Victorian building in a highly desirable part of town close to Barnsley College and the Care Leaver Hub there will be four fully furnished individual flats, a staff office, a staff sleep‑in room and a large direct work area to support young people in their next step to independence. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Manager to support the leadership and day‑to‑day operational management of our brand‑new 16+ Supported Accommodation service. This is a rewarding opportunity for a skilled practitioner with leadership experience who is passionate about care leavers, safeguarding and relationship‑based practice, and who wants to make a genuine difference to young people’s lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Registered Manager in the leadership, coordination and management of the service, ensuring high‑quality support is delivered at all times.
  • Provide day‑to‑day management oversight of support practice, ensuring young people’s emotional, social and practical needs are met as they move towards independence.
  • Promote safeguarding and welfare, ensuring robust risk management, clear boundaries and safe, nurturing routines.
  • Lead and support a team of up to six Support Workers through supervision, team meetings and professional development.
  • Work in partnership with young people, families, social workers, personal advisers and other professionals to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Ensure the service operates in line with the Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023, national guidance, Ofsted‑aligned quality standards and council procedures.
  • Contribute to quality assurance, service development and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure accurate, timely record‑keeping including support plans, risk assessments and pathway‑planning documentation.
  • Participate in recruitment, induction and training of staff.
  • Represent the service at reviews, professional meetings and multi‑agency forums.

About You

  • A QCF Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (or equivalent).
  • Substantial experience supporting young people in residential, supported accommodation or similar settings.
  • Experience supervising or leading staff.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation and statutory guidance.
  • Experience working with young people with complex needs (including trauma, attachment and risk‑taking behaviours).
  • Excellent communication, organisational and leadership skills.
  • A commitment to young‑person centred, relationship‑based practice.
