As a Teaching and Learning Coach you will play a key role in shaping a culture of everyday excellence by supporting staff to deliver exceptional learning experiences for all students. You will contribute to the strategic development of Teaching Learning and Assessment across the college working collaboratively with curriculum managers and colleagues to champion innovation, reflective practice and continuous professional development. You will design and deliver impactful development activities, offer personalised coaching and lead on initiatives that enhance the quality of teaching and learning.
While working as part of the wider Teaching and Learning team, coaches will be closely aligned to curriculum departments using their subject and sector expertise to support improvement, innovation and professional growth within their designated areas. A central aspect of the role will involve supporting and strengthening our observation processes. As part of the college’s observation team, you will carry out high-quality observations of Teaching Learning and Assessment providing clear verbal and written feedback and producing developmental action plans that lead to sustainable improvement. You will also participate in training moderation and standardisation activities to ensure accuracy and rigour in observation outcomes.
Working within a supportive and forward-thinking team you will help to create professional development plans, develop innovative resources and contribute to department and whole college improvement activity. You will also play an important role in the induction and ongoing development of teaching staff helping to embed professional habits, reflective practice and high standards from day one. Ultimately you will be a key influencer in shaping the teaching culture at Barnsley College bringing new ideas, research informed approaches and a genuine commitment to helping every teacher be their best for students. About You
You will be an enthusiastic educator with a strong understanding of what exceptional teaching and learning looks like. You will bring credible experience of delivering innovative and impactful teaching. This could be from a range of educational settings along with experience of supporting colleagues to develop and improve their practice. Whether your background is in further education, schools, apprenticeships, adult learning or higher education, you will be able to demonstrate a commitment to high-quality teaching and continuous improvement.
You will have experience designing and delivering effective staff development as well as a track record of coaching and mentoring colleagues towards meaningful improvement. You will be confident in conducting observations of teaching and learning, making accurate judgements and using evidence to drive forward high-quality practice. Your knowledge of external frameworks such as the Ofsted Toolkit, Apprenticeships and JISCETF technology standards will enable you to support strategic alignment and compliance while ensuring teaching improvements are grounded in sector expectations and research informed approaches.
Personally, you will be positive, adaptable, solution focused and able to inspire confidence in others. You will communicate clearly and objectively, build strong professional relationships and contribute proactively to a collaborative, ambitious and innovative team environment. Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards PGCE Level 5 if not already held
- Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area or significant sector experience
- GCSE Maths and English or equivalent Level 2 qualification
- Evidence of exceptional and innovative teaching practice within further education or another relevant educational setting
- Effective coaching, mentoring or leadership skills that have supported improvement in teaching practice and professional development
- Experience delivering innovative and well received staff development training
- Experience undertaking observations of Teaching Learning and Assessment making accurate judgements and using outcomes to drive improvement
- Knowledge of evidence based and research informed teaching and learning approaches
